What is CrossFit?
You may have already seen videos of advanced CrossFit athletes or maybe some scary fails or missed lifts.
Do you really know what CrossFit is all about?
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that offers observable and measurable improvement within the 10 physical skills known to be required for achieving “fitness.”
The 10 physical skills are:
cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.
Our objective is to prepare our bodies for the unknown and unknowable tasks demanded of us by the unpredictable world we live in. To do so, we use constantly varied functional movements in workouts executed at high intensity relative to an athlete’s capability.
CrossFit prioritizes consistent sound mechanics and technique before intensity. Simply executing a proper movement can feel intense for a beginner. It is imperative to correctly execute these movements consistently before adding load or increasing speed and reps. This is why we offer smaller group classes, 12 people, to guarantee that each athlete is coached and receives the feedback they need to progress.
CrossFit training improves your fitness, but a CrossFit gym provides you with a community of likeminded friends and a support system that keeps you motivated and wanting to come back. You will be encouraged and appreciated, regardless of your level.
Your needs and those of an Olympic athlete only differ by degree, not kind. This is why CrossFit works for the fittest athletes on the planet as well as our own grandparents. Our coaches are there to help adapt each workout to all athletes. The goal is to maintain the intended stimulus of the workout while scaling for everyone’s own unique and respective psychological and physiological capacity.
We have observed that nearly every measurable value of health can be placed on a continuum that ranges from sickness to wellness to fitness. Making improvements to our nutrition or increasing physical activity inevitably leads to a shift on this continuum from sickness to wellness. If we continue to prioritise our health and exercise, we can achieve a level of wellness that abounds into fitness. In essence, the fitter you are, the healthier you are as well. We can look at fitness as a savings deposit that helps us fight off sickness and decrepitude, especially as we age. Fitness is and should be “super-wellness.” Sickness, wellness, and fitness are measures of the same entity.
Still trying to find an excuse?
Maybe you have tried to follow more advanced athletes? Our coaches are here to help you find an appropriate level of intensity. We will help you discover what your body is capable of, step by step.
Our goal is to help you get fitter! There are athletes of all levels of fitness within every class at our gym. All workouts will be adapted to your level of fitness and experience.
Our coaches are not drill sergeants. They are here to support and encourage you as well as teach you the proper technique for each movement.
Maybe when compared to a budget gym from your neighbourhood, but the comparison is unfair. Machine filled spaces often count on you paying and not showing up.
We want you to show up to class. We offer coach led group classes with an experienced trainer, like a boxing class, dance or yoga. Most importantly, with us you’ll see results quickly.
Committing to CrossFit takes an hour out of your day! All you must do is show up with the appropriate workout clothes and we take care of the rest. In one hour, you’ll warm up, practice the movements required for the day and workout. You don’t need to worry about workout planning or equipment.
Our community is inclusive and welcoming. On top of working towards improving our fitness, we also strive to be better human beings. We care about the mental and physical wellbeing of all our members and have zero tolerance for hateful or discriminatory behaviour of any kind.
CrossFit encourages people to regularly learn and play new sports. We gladly celebrate all physical activities. Sign up for a Hyrox race, or your first half marathon. You shouldn’t abandon your weekend baseball or choose between climbing and CrossFit. We are truly complimentary to all sports and activities. We are also the best way to work on your weaknesses and protect you against injuries that are common from practicing repetitive movements. This is because we constantly vary our movements and perform them with a full range of motion, which is healthier for your joints and muscles.
